Run the Scheduler on the Right Machine in Webgility Desktop Overview
This article explains where the Webgility Desktop Scheduler should run — the single machine signed in as the primary user — and how to move it to a different machine when you need to.
If you are still setting up add-on machines themselves, see Install Webgility Desktop on Additional Computers / Unable to Connect Add-On Computer with SQL Database first.
When This AppliesUse this article if you are deciding which machine should run the Scheduler, if the Scheduler will not start on the machine you tried, or if you need to switch the Scheduler from one machine to another.
Why This MattersThe Scheduler runs on the machine where Webgility Desktop is signed in as the primary user. Any machine with Webgility Desktop installed can host it, but only one machine at a time. Running the Scheduler on two machines at once may creates duplicate postings, and duplicate updates to your store, so pick one machine and keep the Scheduler there.
Important Note: "Pick the machine that stays on 24×7 or is your most active workstation — usually the main/server computer — as the primary-user machine, and run the Scheduler there. Do not enable the Scheduler on an add-on machine at the same time."
Steps to Set Up the Scheduler on the Right Machine
Step 1: On the machine you want to own the Scheduler (typically the 24×7 machine or the most active machine), sign in to Webgility Desktop as the primary user — the same login shown in the launch dialog described in Take a Tour of Webgility Desktop.
Step 2: On every other machine that has Webgility Desktop installed, confirm the Scheduler is not running there — this keeps the Scheduler bound to one machine only.
Step 3: Start the Scheduler on the primary-user machine, following How to Start or Stop the Scheduler. The Scheduler icon appears in the Windows system tray on that machine. For a full walkthrough of every Scheduler option and rule, see Scheduler Settings Overview.
Steps to Move the Scheduler to a Different Machine
Step 4a: On the machine that is currently running the Scheduler, exit the Scheduler and then sign out of the primary user in Webgility Desktop.
Step 4b: On the machine you want to run the Scheduler on next, sign in to Webgility Desktop as the primary user and start the Scheduler using the steps in How to Start or Stop the Scheduler.
Key RecommendationTreat the Scheduler as a single-machine job. One primary-user machine owns it at any given time; every other machine with Webgility Desktop installed keeps the Scheduler off. If your Scheduler machine ever changes, use the hand-off in Steps 4a-4b so only one machine is ever running the Scheduler.
Additional SupportIf the Scheduler still will not start after signing in as the primary user on the chosen machine, contact Webgility Support with the machine name and the login used, so the team can confirm which machine currently holds the primary-user session.
