Shopify order bifurcation on the basis of location and download in Webgility Desktop
This article guides Webgility Desktop users who have discontinued a third-party app and are now using Webgility’s built-in Order Source filters to differentiate between dealer and online Shopify orders. It outlines how to validate the setup, confirm correct order separation, and troubleshoot issues to ensure accurate categorization and processing of orders from multiple sales channels.
Overview
If you’ve recently discontinued a third-party integration and are now using Webgility Desktop (WD) to manage Shopify orders, you can still maintain separation between dealer and online orders using Order Source filters. This guide walks you through how to test, confirm, and troubleshoot order bifurcation using Webgility’s built-in tools.
How Order Bifurcation Works
Without the third-party app, Webgility Desktop relies on the Order Source field to help you distinguish between dealer and direct online orders from Shopify.
- Dealer orders and online orders are tracked based on how they’re placed in your Shopify store.
- The Order Source filter in WD allows you to isolate these order types within the application—no external app required.
Step-by-Step: How to Test and Confirm Bifurcation
1. Create Test Orders
You’ll want to create two separate test orders:
- One as a dealer order
- One as a standard online customer order
2. Download Orders in Webgility Desktop
After your test orders are ready:
- Open Webgility Desktop
- Use the ‘Get New Orders’ function to pull in the latest orders from Shopify
3. Use Order Source Filters
Once the orders are downloaded, do the following:
- Go to the Orders view
- Use the Order Source filter to:
- View only dealer orders
- View only online orders
- View only dealer orders
4. Confirm That Orders Are Bifurcated Correctly
Check the filtered views to ensure:
- The dealer test order appears only when the dealer source is selected
- The online test order appears only under the online source
Note: Take screenshots or notes to confirm correct separation. You can use this as a reference for future orders.
Troubleshooting Tips
If the bifurcation isn’t working as expected:
- Review Filter Settings
Double-check the applied filters in Webgility Desktop. - Check Shopify Setup
Make sure test orders are placed via distinct pathways in Shopify (e.g., dealer portal vs. standard checkout). - Re-sync Orders
Use the Refresh or Re-download Orders function in WD to pull the latest data.
