Release notes for Webgility Online v8.34.0

This article highlights a new feature in Webgility Online that automatically identifies and correctly accounts for tax collected from the Shopify marketplace for Shopify and QuickBooks Online users. The feature ensures marketplace-collected tax is excluded from the seller’s sales tax liability and accurately adjusted during payout reconciliation. Supporting both Transactional and Summary posting methods, this enhancement helps maintain accurate tax reporting and cleaner reconciliations with minimal manual effort.

Note: This feature applied to only Shopify - Quickbooks Online users only

We're excited to roll out a powerful new feature on Webgility Online for Shopify and QuickBooks Online users.

What’s New?

Automatic detection & accounting of Shopify marketplace-collected tax

Webgility Online now identifies marketplace-collected tax on Shop App orders and handles it accurately in both sales tax liability and reconciliation workflows.

Correct treatment of sales tax liability

Marketplace-collected tax is removed from the seller’s own sales tax payable, ensuring Webgility Online doesn’t overstate liability when Shopify remits tax on the seller’s behalf.

Accurate payout reconciliation

Webgility Online automatically deducts the marketplace-collected tax amount from the Order Deposit (Shopify payout clearing) account, keeping reconciliations clean and accurate.

Works for both posting methods

This feature is fully supported for Transactional and Summary posting.

Flexibility for users

Transactional-posting users can choose to treat marketplace-collected tax as their own sales tax if needed (not recommended), and Webgility Online will adjust posting behavior accordingly.
