How to Troubleshoot and Fix ErrorCode 6240 When Posting Orders via Webgility Desktop to QuickBooks Desktop

This article helps Webgility Desktop users troubleshoot and resolve ErrorCode 6240 on order posting to QuickBooks Desktop, which occurs when an order attempts to post using a name (such as customer, vendor, or employee) that already exists in the QuickBooks Desktop Company File.

Error Message Example:

Duplicate name exists in QuickBooks. ErrorCode 6240
  • Attempting to post an order or transaction via Webgility Desktop into QuickBooks where a name conflict exists across entity types (e.g., the same name is used for both a vendor and a customer).

Step 1: Verify and Check the Error Prompt.

  • Attempt to post the order again from Webgility Desktop to QuickBooks in the Error Tab.

  • In the Error Prompt message check which customer, vendor, or employee name is impacting the order posting.

  • Note the conflicting name displayed in the error message (e.g., “Jacob Garcia”).

Step 2: Investigate the Name Conflict in QuickBooks

  • Open QuickBooks Desktop.

  • Use the global search or review the Customer Center, Vendor Center, and Employee Center.

  • Search for the conflicting name across all lists types.

  • Identify duplicate entries of the same name, and make the changes.

Step 5: Re-Post the Order from Webgility

  • In Webgility Desktop navigate to Connections go to Get Latest Data & Settings and download QuickBooks Data.

  • This will download the latest changes we made in QuickBooks Desktop.

  • Go to New Orders or Error Tab and Retry posting the same order.
